At several occasions I told
you about Fonske or Fons sapientiae, the statue in the centre of
Leuven standing next to the magnificent town hall and St Peter's
Church. It represents the eternal student reading a book whilst
pouring liquid in his brain.
I also told you that there is written something in his book. The
inscription you will read when climbing on the statue is - apart
from some mathematical formulas - the word GELUK, which is Flemish
for HAPPINESS!
That is indeed
the philosophy of Leuven: knowledge or the book topped with pleasure
or some beer brings us joy and happiness!
In the same spirit I hope that for every participant ECM23 was an
interesting combination of science and social activities bringing
you joy and happiness!
At this occasion I would like to repeat my special thanks to:
- our sponsors and exhibitors for their important contributions,
- all chairpersons and members of the organising committee, program
committee and bursary selection committee,
- the staff of our organising bureau Momentum, especially Anne De
Smet, for their professionalism,
- all participants for their contributions to ECM23.
