Walking Tour 'Leuven medieval
city'

Programme:
Leuven has a history that dates from the Middle Ages. During this
walk we will travel back to this period. On our way we will meet
scientists like Erasmus and Mercator. At the Grand Place we can
admire the beautiful flamboyant city hall and The Saint-Peter's
Church. The Treasury of Saint Peter
houses in the church. Two masterpieces (15th C.) of the Flemish
Primitive Dirk Bouts, i.e. 'The Last Supper' and 'Martyrdom of Saint
Erasmus' are on display. But this uncovers only a tip of the veil
of Leuvens History.

Concert with Kolacny Brothers

Programme:
Steven and Stijn Kolacny began playing four-handed piano duets as
children. The talented young pianists perfected their skills by
taking master classes with the virtuoso Alfons Kontarsky in Salzburg.
In '98 the brothers toured in Japan, where they were welcomed with
exceptional enthusiasm. The following year they made their début
in the US, and at the end of '99 they were invited back to Japan
for a second concert tour. The Kolacnys have played with several
prestigious Belgian orchestras, including the "Vlaams Radio
Orkest", and "Koninklijk Filharmonisch Orkest van Vlaanderen".
The Kolacny Pianoduo has
recorded seven CDs, which were widely acclaimed by the International
music press. Their CD 'Antonin Dvorak. Uit het Boheemse Woud (From
the Bohemian Woods)' (Eufoda 1265 - Codaex) was awarded 10/10 for
performance by the Dutch journal 'Luister'. It was also honoured
with a 'Diapason d''or' in the renowned French publication ‘Diapason’.
Their 'Antonin Dvorak. Slavische dansen (Slavonic dances) opus 46
& opus 72' (Eufoda 1270 - Codaex) CD was also awarded a 10/10
for performance by 'Luister'. And in the French magazine 'Répertoire',
the CD was honoured with an 'R' ('Recommandé par Répertoire').
Steven and Stijn''s latest recording - The Hungarian Dances of Johannes
Brahms - was honoured in 'Diapason' with a 'Diapason d''or' and
in 'Répertoire' with a '10'.
Over the last few years, the Kolacny brothers have enjoyed several
opportunities to accompany popular artists, such as Arid and Hooverphonic.
One of the highlights of these cross-genre collaborations was a
memorable performance for the 50,000-strong audience at Belgium's
prestigious Rock Werchter festival in 2000.
The brothers continue to work closely
with contemporary Belgian composers and have collaborated on some
20 compositions, most of which have been dedicated to them by the
composers.
Steven and Stijn perform regularly
in their native country of Belgium, but also in many countries throughout
the world, including: Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland
and Austria.

Programme:
The tour programme consist of a half day
bus tour introduction to the City of Brussels. This tour is completed
by a more in-depth thematic visit by foot. Participants and their
registered accompanying guests can choose between 3 optional programmes
for the half day thematic visit. A lunch is provided within this
package.
Half day bus tour:
This tour deals with the versality of the city, the extremes and
contrasts, the problems, the challenges and the dynamism of Brussels.
Participants will get to know the medieval city development, the
19th century redevelopments, the industrialisation along the canal,
the pre-harbour, the greenery of the Warande Park and the Botanical
Garden, Art Nouveau on the squares, popular neighbourhoods and office
develoments, neighbourhoods of the migrants such as Matongé,
the Fast Train terminal at the South station .... and underway some
time for a cosy coffee break.
Walk 1: Old downtown Brussels on
the move
This neighbourhood walk between the famous marketplace and the canal
deals with the changes that happened along the canalside, causing
shifts in the way people live and work in the city. It also deals
with the astonishing rejuvenation of downtown Brussels. We will
walk alongside culture temples, place-to-be cafés, trendy
shops and most wanted loft appartments in converted warehouses ...
demonstrating how renewal of stones can also bring a new population
to a city.
Walk 2: Art Nouveau and more: an architectural walk
This walking tour deals
with 250 years of architectural history, seen from the perspective
of and with an accent on Art Nouveau. It will also show you examples
of classicism, eclecticism and Art Déco, Expo 58-style with
a visit to the interior of the Art Nouveau warehousesOld England
and Les Magasins Waucquez.

to those participants experiencing some problems with longer walks.
The first half day bus tour is completed by an exploration of the
city limits, with the Centenary Park, the Woluwe Valley, the garden
neighbourhoods of Logis & Floreal and the student city Louvain-la-Neuve.

Programme:
In the morning a guided tour through the unsurpassed city of Bruges
is planned. During this walk you will enjoy the unique centre of
our world-famous city. This is really a "must" for a first
visit. Starting from the coach park our guide will accompany the
group on a two-hour guided tour during which you will see the Lake
of Love, the Beguinage, the Church of Our Lady, the canals, the
Burg square with the beautiful Town Hall, the Basilica of the Holy
Blood and the Market Square with the famous Belfry. Lunch will be
taken at a local restaurant. After lunch we will make a short cruise
down the canals of Bruges. During this boat trip you will discover
Bruges from quite a different and surprising point of view! To finish
our day in Bruges we will pay a visit to the Lace Museum.

Programme:
Antwerp, as it was in the second half of
the 19th century. The city flourished, kings came and visit the
town. Huge constructions showed the prosperity: the city walls were
replaced by large avenues with prestigious buildings like the Opera
and the Central Station. New residential districts like Zurenborg
and The South, arose according to a thought-out plan, the city grew
by a sixfold. The walk takes us along many 19th century buildings,
all telling a different story. We will talk about the 19th century
novelties like the train, the zoo, the avenues, the malls, the promenades
and the metropolis -reflection. Lunch will be taken at a local restaurant.
After lunch, we will visit the Plantin-Moretus Museum. The manual
book production process and an enormous collection of books, from
the 15th till the 18th century, are shown here, in the original
interior of a patrician house. The Print Room houses an important
collection of old drawings and prints. This
is followed by a tour in the Middelheim open-air museum of sculptures.
The unique combination of art in a natural environment turns this
park into the nicest of the city! The park is situated just outside
the Antwerp ring-road, just to the south of the city, and was purchased
by the city back in 1910 to prevent it being developed. The collection
consists of more than 300 sculptures, starting chronologically with
Auguste Rodin. Most are out in the open air and share the seasons
with their magnificent natural surroundings.

Programme:First
we will enjoy a guided walk through the city including a visit of
Saint-Bavo Cathedral. During the tour the guide will take us for
a visit of the Gravensteen, a fortified castle built by Philip of
Alsace, Count of Flanders in 1180. Lunch at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon we drive to the
castle of Ooidonk, a jewel of Flemish-Spanish 16th century architecture.
The successive owners have always tried to keep the rural look of
the area. A guided visit carries us back into the history of this
splendid castle.
We continue with a tour around the Leie
(Lys) area. The banks of the Leie have inspired many painters. The
name of the village of Sint-Martens-Latem is well known in the history
of art. At the end of the 19th century a group of artistis is formed
around the sculptor Georges Minne, who settled down in the village
in 1897. We stop here for a visit to a gallery, a short walk or
a drink on a terrace.
